What is Geopathic Stress?

The earth beneath your home — what it is, how it affects you, and what can be done.

The basics

Earth energy and how it becomes distorted.

Geopathic stress refers to the natural radiation that rises through the earth and becomes distorted by underground features — water streams, geological fault lines, mineral concentrations and underground cavities.

The word comes from the Greek: geo (earth) and pathos (suffering). It has been studied in building biology for decades, with a substantial body of practitioner experience supporting its relevance to human health.

What causes it?

01

Underground water

The most common cause — particularly where streams cross or change direction.

02

Fault lines

Fractures in bedrock create zones of distorted earth energy across a property.

03

Minerals & voids

Certain minerals, underground cavities and man-made tunnels can amplify zones.

Common signs

Persistent poor sleep despite adequate hours
Waking feeling unrefreshed or fatigued
Children constantly moving in bed
Dogs avoid geopathic zones — cats are attracted to them
Persistent health complaints that don't resolve
A sense of unease in specific rooms

How Purely Clear Space assesses it

Daniel uses professional dowsing techniques trained under Roy Riggs BSc. Stress lines are mapped on your floor plan as part of the written report. Underground water detection is included in every survey as standard.

The most effective solution is often the simplest — moving where you sleep by even a metre can step you out of the zone.
